Announcing: The 2025 CABBAGES Readers' Poll
The one time of year where YOU get to weigh in with your favorite independent hip-hop/rap acts and works. Act right.
Despite the fact that fall weather continues to elude us here at CABBAGES NYC HQ, we're officially kicking off this year's Readers' Poll today.
Admittedly, we haven't always done one of these during the past half decade, and certainly never this early in Q4. Yet as CABBAGES approaches its sixth anniversary this coming January, we've decided it's time to start behaving like a real professional media company and commence our year-end content push at a time that makes us feel deeply uncomfortable since an album of the year contender could potentially drop at any point in the next few months.
Anyway, voting commences today and will run until Sunday November 2 at 11:59PM EST, after which we will stop accepting ballots. The results will be announced sometime in November, which again makes us feel deeply uncomfortable.
A few things to note:
- CABBAGES remains dedicated to its mission of supporting music discovery and independent artists in hip-hop/rap. As such, this Readers' Poll does not and will not include artists currently signed to major labels (Warner, Sony, UMG, and their respective imprints) or albums released on said labels, nor those of comparable scale.
- To determine eligibility, all nominated artists or imprints were covered in some capacity in the CABBAGES newsletter this calendar year to date.
- In each of the main categories, you must choose a minimum of one (1) and a maximum of five (5) selections. These are not ranked choices, but will be ranked after the fact based on total votes per selection. Additionally, you have the option to nominate one (1) additional pick of your choosing in each respective category, so long as your total per category comes to five (5) max. Note that if you select a major label artist or album, it will not be considered.
- In the spirit of fairness, previous CABBAGES Readers' Poll winners are not eligible for new nominations in their respective winning categories at this time. This excludes esteemed 2022 winners billy woods (Best Rapper, Best Rap Album) and The Alchemist (Best Producer), both of whom would otherwise be up for consideration in those categories.
- Please just vote one time. Ballot stuffing is lame and if you do it you're a lame.
